As we age, there will be a lot of changes to our body. One of the many changes that happen is the deterioration of our vision. For instance, we will need more light to see clearly and there will be reduced production of tears, which is needed to keep our eyes healthy and maintain a clear vision. Not only can our eyesight deteriorate as we age, but certain health conditions and our lifestyle can also affect our eyesight adversely. The use of our smart devices for prolonged time can cause digital eye strain. If using our smart devices for long periods is the problem, then it would make sense to just not use it for longer periods, but that isn’t possible always, right? So what can we do to slow down the deterioration of our eyesight?

Try following the 20-20-20 rule:  For every 20 minutes we look at the screen, take a break for 20 seconds by focusing on something that is at least 20 feet away.

Correctly setting us your workplace: Position our screen at least 20 inches from our eyes, angled upwards and slightly below our eye level.

Going for regular health check-ups: Detecting certain conditions earlier, helps in better prognosis and treatment of conditions. Like for example, the very popular diabetes that is common among many Singaporeans. It can cause diabetic retinopathy, which is blindness that is caused due to the damage to the blood vessels of the light-sensitive tissue, retina located at the back of our eye.
